1. Overview

Welcome to Mind the Fridge ("we", "our", or "us"). We built this app to help you reduce food waste by keeping track of what's in your fridge and freezer, suggesting recipes based on what you have, and letting you share your inventory with your household.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use Mind the Fridge, how we use it, and what rights you have over it. By using the app, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Data We Collect

Account Information (via Social Login)

When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the following information from those providers:

• Your name
• Your email address
• Your profile picture (if available)
• A unique identifier issued by the provider

We do not receive or store your social account password.

Household & App Data

To provide the core features of Mind the Fridge, we also collect:

• Food items you add to your fridge or freezer (name, quantity, expiry date, category)
• Shopping list items you create
• Household names and the email addresses of members you invite
• App preferences and settings (e.g. notification preferences, analytics opt-in)

Barcode & Product Lookups

When you scan a barcode to add an item, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts to retrieve the product name and details. No personal information is included in this request.

Recipe Suggestions

To generate recipe suggestions, the names of food items in your fridge are sent to our backend service (hosted on Supabase). This data is used solely to generate recipes and is not stored beyond the duration of the request.

Usage & Diagnostic Data

We collect anonymised usage events and crash reports through Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the app is used and to fix issues. This may include:

• Feature interactions and screen views
• Device type and operating system version
• App version and crash stack traces

This data is not linked to your name or email address. You can opt out of analytics collection in the app's Settings.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account
• Allow you to create and share households with other users
• Sync your fridge, freezer, and shopping list inventory across devices
• Generate personalised recipe suggestions based on your fridge contents
• Send you relevant notifications (e.g. items nearing expiry), if you opt in
• Analyse anonymous usage patterns to improve the app
• Diagnose and fix technical issues

We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to any third party.

Google Sign-In

Sign in with Apple

Provided by Apple Inc. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Supabase

We use Supabase as our backend infrastructure for authentication, database storage, and server-side functions (including recipe generation). Data is stored on Supabase-managed servers. Learn more at supabase.com/privacy.

Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics

We use Firebase Analytics for anonymised product analytics and Firebase Crashlytics for crash reporting, both provided by Google LLC. You can opt out of analytics at any time in the app's Settings. Learn more at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

Open Food Facts

When you scan a product barcode, we query the Open Food Facts public database to retrieve product information. No personal data is sent in this request. Learn more at openfoodfacts.org/privacy.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

• With household members: When you invite someone to your household, they can see the shared fridge, freezer, and shopping list inventory. They see your display name and profile picture.
• Service providers: We share data with the third-party services listed above solely to operate the app.
• Legal obligations: We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data directly from the app via Settings → Delete account. You may also contact us to request deletion (see below).

Anonymised analytics and crash data collected via Firebase may be retained for up to 24 months for product improvement purposes.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
• Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Deletion: Delete your account and all personal data directly in the app, or contact us and we will action it within 30 days.
• Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Objection: Object to certain types of processing, including analytics (opt out in Settings).

8. Children's Privacy

Mind the Fridge is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Union). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you via the app or by email. Your continued use of Mind the Fridge after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
